What is the difference between SIBO and normal colonic bacteria?

The large intestine (colon) naturally contains trillions of bacteria vital for fermenting fiber. In contrast, the small intestine is designed to remain relatively sterile (< 1,000 CFU/mL) to allow proper nutrient absorption. When bacteria migrate upwards into the small intestine, they consume nutrients prematurely and produce excess gas.

Why do so many SIBO treatments end in relapse?

Antimicrobial or antibiotic protocols kill the overgrown bacteria, but they do not fix the underlying motility or anatomical breakdown (such as a deficient Migrating Motor Complex, low stomach acid, or adhesions).
